Description

A six-year-old boy was abandoned by his mother in a New York City tenement. The year was 1951 and it was a totally different world than we would recognize today. This is the true memoir of a young boy's struggle to survive with virtually no family, and little adult guidance. Raised by his maternal grandmother in a tough Queens, New York neighborhood infested with street gangs, he yearned for direction and love , or at least acceptance. Along the journey to adulthood there were many traumatic times and some unique experiences, which were forever etched in his mind. It is a story of needless deaths, growing up too fast, teenage romance, and coping with the realities forced upon him by circumstances. The author has always wanted to record this period in his life, but never found the time to sit down and write his story. Life got in the way. Everything in this memoir is true and happened just as presented. Whatever the author didn't remember clearly was intentionally omitted. Any embellishment would have defeated his purpose. You will experience the fear, joy, and anguish this young boy felt. It was originally written as a memoir just for his future generations, but after some close friends read it they suggested it might be of interest to all. The entire manuscript was written, and edited (albeit with a little help from some friends), by the man who lived it...and survived to tell this story. He now believes in guardian angels. You just might too.
